Modernization
Project Update, March 3, 2010
The Cascade Medical Center’s new Project
consists of an addition to and modernization of the existing facility,
located at 817 Commercial Street, Leavenworth, Washington. The purpose
is to provide an updated patient care facility that will provide
expanded services that are in line with latest practices and codes which
is not possible in the confined space of the existing facility. The
total Project Cost of the new facility including all systems,
furnishings, equipments, fees, permits and sales tax is $14.4 million
and is funded in part by community approved general obligation bonds.
The addition will include a partial
daylight lower level of approximately 5,530 sf, a main level of
approximately 8,263 sf and an upper level of approximately 6,650 sf with
an additional roughed-in area of 1,613 sf for clinic expansion in the
future. The lower level will include a new covered ambulance parking
area, mechanical and electrical rooms and storage for the hospital’s
maintenance equipment. The main level addition will house the relocated
Acute Care patient rooms and their support spaces and part of the
relocated and expanded Emergency Department. The upper floor of the
addition will house the relocated and expanded provider’s clinic with
elevator access.
The lower level of the existing hospital
will receive minor remodeling and upgraded finishes and will house the
hospital support spaces such as kitchen, staff dining, staff lockers and
showers, Central Supply, Medical Records, a classroom and storage areas.
The main level of the existing hospital
building will be almost completely remodeled. The structure will be
upgraded to comply with current snow loads, and fireproofed to comply
with current Life Safety codes. The existing facility’s mechanical and
electrical will be completely upgraded to comply with current codes.
The waiting area, Radiology, Lab, Physical Therapy, portions of
Emergency and Acute Care will be relocated and upgraded to provide
better service and easier access for patients and better work flow for
staff.
The entire hospital facility and the new
clinic will be fire sprinkled to comply with current Life Safety codes.
The existing clinic at the east end of
the site will have finishes upgraded and some very minor remodeling as
it is converted to office space for hospital administration. The
exterior will be upgraded to comply with the City’s Bavarian design
standards.
Sitework will include adding a new
patient drop-off at the north end of the building off Commercial Street,
relocated Emergency Department ambulance and patient entries at the west
side of the site of 8th Street including parking at the
northwest corner of the site and upgrading the parking at the south side
of the site. Sitework will also include new landscaping.
Cascade Medical Center awarded their Addition and Modernization project to Levernier
Construction of Spokane, Washington on August 11, 2009 and work was
commenced shortly thereafter.
Levernier has focused on the Phase 1,
construction of the new addition, which will house the new upper level
clinic, new main level acute facility, and lower level Ambulance and
mechanical and electrical areas with anticipated completion scheduled
for late August this year.
Mild Weather has allowed construction of
the Cascade Medical Center’s new facility to continue unhampered as
Levernier Construction moves forward toward completion of the Phase 1
addition.
To date, the addition’s structural work
has been completed including all floors, roof deck and structural glu-laminated
beams. Fire proofing of the structural elements is anticipated to be
completed this week. All floors have been poured; all mechanical air
handling units have been set and the mechanical subcontractor is in the
process of running HVAC ductwork. The elevator tower has been installed
as well as stairs at both ends of the addition are complete. The
electrical subcontractor is currently in the process installing
electrical branch conduits as the interior walls are being constructed,
and plumbing is currently being installed.
Throughout the Spring, the Community will
be able to see the installation of exterior wall framing and sheathing
as well as installation of the roof system.
The District anticipates installation of
various hospital related systems commencing mid-July of this year with
installation of furnishings and equipment scheduled for the latter part
of August for an anticipated occupancy of the new clinic and acute area
by early September.
Following completion of Phase 1 and the
District’s move-in, Levernier Construction will commence Phase 2 which
involves renovations and modernization to the lower and main levels of
the existing hospital facility, addition of the main entry/lobby, and
Bavarian upgrades along Commercial Street. Phase 3 will follow shortly
thereafter and include renovations of the front of the existing hospital
to house the new Physical Therapy Department and Therapy Pool and
construction of the Laboratory facilities. |
